There is a lot to see and do in Amsterdam. This is aimed to introduce you to the city and to function as a practical guide. Amsterdam has all the advantages of a large city but has less problems than capitals often have. Amsterdam is relatively small. You can see a lot by foot, the canals flow quietly along and there is no traffic congestion to speak of. We hope that this information will enhance your stay in this culturally pleasant city.

Visas
Visitors arriving in the Netherlands must have a valid national passport or an ID card for the Schengen area.
Please check the list of countries whose citizens require a visa on the
website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Citizens from most European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the USA do not need a visa.
Banks
General opening hours of banks:
Mondays from 13.00 to 17.00.
Tuesday through Friday from 9.00 to 17.00.
Closed Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Border exchange offices (GWK, located on the main train stations) are open on weekends.

The Netherlands has a moderate climate. The mean temperature in July is 21 °C. But remember there is always a chance of rain.

Classy grand café restaurant on platform 2b of the Centraal Station (Central Railway Station).
Smits Koffiehuis
Remarkable wooden building with pub/restaurant. Well known meeting place for tourists. Built in 1919. Next to VVV (Tourist Information Office). Stationsplein 10.
